Take a Virtual Tour of a Cloud ERP Data Center

Take a Virtual Tour of a Cloud ERP Data Center

Its an easy answer – it’s all about the infrastructure and software design – let me explain.

Even though more and more small and midsize businesses are embracing the cloud with services like Office 365, DropBox and Google Apps, many people are still hesitant to look at utilising Cloud ERP solutions like MYOB Advanced which is available from Leverage Cloud Technologies in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

I must admit that up until 2 years ago I was also a “cloud sceptic”. I just couldn’t see why anyone would not want to manage their own software on their own servers.

That was until my electricity bill alone for the server room hit $1000 per month and I had a major internet outage to my premises that took me off line for 4 days.

I decided it was time to re-evaluate my stance on the cloud. So I started looking for co-location services – which is where your services sit in racks alongside other companies and you share access to big and redundant internet pipes, power from the grid and protected via large generators and battery backups and cooling from industrial strength air conditioning.

I found one of Australia’s largest (and newest ) data centres in the Sydney suburb of Alexandria owned and managed by a company called Equinix – one of 3 they have in Sydney alone – this one is called Equinix SY3 and I went for a tour.

What I saw blew me away and I suddenly realised that this was the right solution for my servers and co-located them in a rack, protected, secured and firewalled in a way that I never could nor I suspect could you in your small or midsized business without spending 100’s of thousands of dollars.

In fact my servers are located in the same data centre as Amazons AWS servers for Australia – the same servers where MYOB Advanced is located as MYOB chose Amazon AWS infrastructure to host their solution.

So, I realized that the best way to ever show anyone why cloud was more secure and more reliable and more cost effective was to take them for a tour of the data centre – but quite frankly – that’s almost impossible as the average person cannot get permission to tour a data centre but we have the next best thing – a virtual tour of the data centre and a n overview video as well.

By the way, heres a blog on the SAP Community Network that I wrote on the topic back in 2013 and the latest certification that the Amazon AWS services meet the stringent ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standards
